As part of our Literacy unit on Playscripts and our WAU topic Potatoes: Then and Now, pupils engaged in a creative and cross-curricular project that brought history to life!
The journey began with pupils creating storyboards and writing their own scripts to retell the dramatic story of the potato crop failure. In Art, they brought these scripts to life by designing scenes, characters, and props.
In ICT, pupils photographed their scenes and imported the images into Microsoft Movie Maker. They then recorded voice overs to narrate each part of the story, combining their digital skills with their storytelling abilities.
The final animations told a moving story of the potato famine, including the failure of the crop, eviction, soup kitchens, life in the workhouse, and emigration.
This project was a fantastic example of teamwork, creativity, and skill transfer across subjects – and it was great fun too!
