Transport Debate

Task 2: Transport Debate
Working in pairs, we completed an activity sheet that explored the positives and negatives of four different types of transport: cycling, walking, public transport, and travelling by car.
This activity linked perfectly with our persuasive writing unit in literacy. We were challenged to include some of the persuasive devices we have been learning about, such as:
•    Alliteration
•    Facts
•    Opinions
•    Rhetorical questions
•    Repetition
•    Emotive language
•    Superlatives
•    Triplets
We also used iPads to research extra information and gather facts to help strengthen our arguments.
It was a brilliant way to apply our literacy skills to a real topic that matters for our environment and our everyday choices.

With all our information gathered, we were ready to begin our active travel debates!
Our first debate was Cycling vs. Walking, followed by Car vs. Public Transport. Each group presented their arguments, using persuasive devices such as facts, opinions, rhetorical questions, repetition, and emotive language to convince the audience.
The audience was then asked to vote for their preferred and most effective mode of transport by walking to the poster that represented their choice. This made the voting process active, visual, and fun—perfectly linking back to our focus on active travel!

The winners of each round then went head to head in a final debate to determine the overall champion.

The final debate was walking versus car. The results were:
WALK: 9
CAR: 4
The overall winner was: WALKING
